NELG began in 1996 and has grown to be one of the largest Landcare groups in the network. NELG is responsible for the stewardship of several public spaces around Napoleons and Scotchman’s Lead, including nearly 11 hectares of the Scotchman’s Lead Reserve beginning at Franklin’s Bridge. NELG has strong connections with the local community, holding regular working bees for the Geocachers group and local primary and secondary school groups.
NELG mission is to:
- protect and rehabilitate the natural habitats in the local area
- educate the community to help conserve native flora and fauna
NELG’s key projects have resulted in the planting 22,790 plants in the last ten years. These projects include:
- Being one of the 13 Urban Ripple sites (2024-2026)
- Yarrowee Plantings: Inspiration for Volunteers (2022-2023)
- Stretching Down the Yarrowee (2020-2021)
- Round the Bend and Up the Creek (2018-2019)
