Tree seedlings in protective tubes by a wetland.

Founded in 1997, the Ross Creek Landcare Group is located south-west of Ballarat, and incorporates the localities of Ross Creek and Smythes Creek.

The group has worked towards the revegetation of formerly weedy land on the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve. That area is now a designated Nature Reserve with many indigenous plants now self-seeding and producing a second generation.

Over the years, the group has worked with several schools, including the Ross Creek Campus of Woady Yaloak Primary School, to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of native flora and fauna in younger residents. Most recently, this has involved work on the school campus’s wetland area, a favoured habitat for migratory Latham’s snipe.

Our Group also seeks to help private landowners increase biodiversity on their properties.  We hold a working bee on the first Saturday of every month. All are welcome to join in and learn!
